What does Life Intents do?

Life inTents designs and sells premium canvas bell tents for camping, glamping, camps, retreats, and outdoor hospitality. Our tents are available in several sizes and styles, from traditional canvas bell tents to our Stella Stargazer tents with transparent roof panels. We focus on creating comfortable, durable shelters that can be used for recreational camping as well as longer-term and commercial setups.

How is Life Intents different from other companies in your category?

We put a lot of emphasis on the materials and details that matter when a canvas tent is going to see repeated use. Our tents use heavy-duty canvas, durable waterproof floors, strong hardware, and thoughtful ventilation. Our Doektec canvas is also treated for added resistance to mold and mildew, which can be especially important for tents that stay set up for longer periods. Our lineup includes traditional bell tents as well as our distinctive Stella Stargazer models with transparent roof panels plus the Timberline Exchange that has a removable and replaceable door.

What should camps know about your industry?

Canvas tents are very different from lightweight synthetic camping tents. A well-made canvas tent is heavier and requires more care, but it can provide a much more comfortable and durable space for repeated or seasonal use. Canvas is naturally breathable and can help moderate temperature swings compared with many lightweight synthetic tent materials. Camps should also know that not all canvas tents are built the same. Canvas weight and treatment, floor construction, ventilation, hardware, and overall design can vary considerably between manufacturers. For camps planning to leave tents set up for extended periods, those differences become especially important.

What should a camp look for when comparing options in your category?

Look beyond the tent's dimensions and price. Canvas weight and treatment, floor construction, ventilation, zipper quality, replacement parts, and how easily the tent can be maintained all matter when tents are being used repeatedly. Camps should also think about how the tent will actually be used. A tent for occasional overnight programs has different requirements than one that will remain set up for an entire season or serve as guest or staff accommodations.

What's one thing you'd tell a camp director that isn't a sales pitch?

Spend some time thinking about the site before deciding which tent to buy. The best tent in the world won't fix a low spot that collects water, poor drainage, or a location with little airflow. A good tent site will help the tent stay drier, make maintenance easier, and create a much better experience for the people using it.
